PACE Program Academic Advisor
POSITION: Full-Time Pathways to Academic and Career Excellence (PACE) Program Academic Advisor (Academic Counselor): PACE Program, TRIO-SSS; Haverhill Campus with occasional time on the Lawrence Campus (45 Franklin Street); 37.5 hours/week; 10 month position (8 weeks off for summer) Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm with occasional evening hours (Hours may be adjusted and compensated in alignment with contractual guidelines); MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position; Pay Grade 5; TRIO SSS Grant Funded Position, currently funded through August 2026.

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of PACE, TRIO-SSS, the PACE Program Academic Advisor will be part of a collaborative team, providing support services for 258 TRIO eligible (first generation, low income and/or disabled) NECC students each year. PACE is a federal TRIO program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education and focuses on supporting students to persist, graduate and transfer to four-year institutions. The PACE Academic Advisor will take the lead on all academic advising and academic support initiatives for the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties for this position include:
  • Provide academic advising for PACE Project participants including building and updating academic plans to reflect expected graduation dates for each student using EAB Navigate;
  • Meet with students to clarify academic and career goals, advise them on majors and career pathways, and assist students to register for appropriate courses;
  • Assess and address needs of program participants through tracking academic progress, monitoring early alerts, and contacting students and faculty;
  • Support students facing obstacles, including students who may be on academic or financial aid probation/suspension or facing personal challenges. Connect students with appropriate resources and be an advocate and mentor as needed;
  • Assist the PACE Transfer Advisor in arranging and participating in campus and cultural field trips for Project participants to visit four-year colleges and universities;
  • Function as team member in multi-disciplinary program to provide a system of integrated support services to project participants in order to satisfy specific grant objectives;
  • Collaboratively design and implement student success workshops for project participants featuring a variety of topics meant to increase persistence and graduation rates;
  • Build relationships with staff in the Student Success Hub, Financial Aid, Academic Coaching and the Academic Centers to stay current on programmatic changes and coordinate efforts to best support students;
  • Recruit eligible students into the Program;
  • Participate in TRIO trainings and other professional development opportunities regularly.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to relate and work well, with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Experience as an academic advisor
  • Experience in a community college environment
  • Experience working with EAB Navigate, DegreeWorks, and other college platforms
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population

Additional Information:
GRADE AND SALARY: Anticipated 10-month (44 weeks) salary range is $60,016.84 - $64,659.69 (MCCC Pay Grade 5 with a Bachelor's degree) annually with complete fringe benefit package. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system. Official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
