Job Description
The Parts Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of the parts department, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement, storage, and distribution of parts and supplies. This role requires a strong understanding of inventory management, supply chain principles, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and 5-10 years of experience in a parts management or related role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of the parts department, including purchasing, receiving, storing, issuing, and inventory control.
Manage and optimize inventory levels to meet operational needs while minimizing carrying costs.
Develop and implement inventory control procedures, including cycle counting, stock replenishment, and obsolescence management.
Forecast parts demand and plan procurement strategies accordingly.
Source and procure parts and supplies from approved vendors, negotiating favorable pricing and terms.
Manage vendor relationships, ensuring timely delivery and quality of parts.
Supervise and mentor parts department staff, including performance management, training, and development.
Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the inventory management system.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe parts storage area.
Analyze parts usage and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
Develop and implement parts department budgets and monitor performance against budget.
Collaborate with other departments (e.g., maintenance, operations) to ensure timely availability of parts.
Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in parts management.
Manage the disposal of obsolete or surplus parts.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
5-10 years of experience in a parts management or related role, preferably in [relevant industry, e.g., manufacturing, automotive, etc.].
Strong understanding of inventory management principles and best practices.
Experience with inventory management software and ERP systems.
Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Certification in supply chain management (e.g., CSCP) is a plus.
